Our vehicle rear ended by another driver. Paperwork exchanged, Collision reported w police.

police recognized that other driver was at fault. We were shortly advised by driver at fault to follow up by using claim number provided from Wawanesa. Drove car around and got multiple estimates... not just one that is legally required.

Attempted to contact Wawanesa regarding next step and also to find out how to follow up if we needed to rent a vehicle. Adjustor over one month later still not replying to multiple attempts to clarify process; never at her desk; has long outdated message on her phone message; not communicating beyond leaving us an answering machine message at our home to take it "...to Wawanesa's preferred repair shop." Illegal in our province to require this. When we still received no return communication we asked the other driver to speak with her insurance broker/adjustor and we were then told again to use claim number provided and to simply follow up with repair shop of our choice. After reviewing laws regarding vehicle repair consumer rights (federal and provincial) the vehicle was repaired at shop of our choice, but Wawanesa is apparently denying the claim now.

Our own insurance company broker has been involved through much of this and Wawanesa is not working with them either. FYI: we actually took the vehicle to the repair shop that was both the most convenient for our needs and it also provided a repair appraisal that appeared reasonable relative to our own observations; as did a second shop. Two of three shops provided near identical repair cost quotes; the third shop was nearly double and we actually felt one portion of that repair was not necessary. We also conferred with the manufacturer dealer where we bought our vehicle and asked the service people to give their opinion on what would have been likely to be damaged in such a collision and what might need repair.

Using all this information the shop we were wanting to take it to for convenience sake, also one of the shops with one of the lower quotes came out on top considering all factors! But Wawanesa apparently feels they must control our decisions!?!? If you Google consumer complaints and read consumer as well as federal and provincial government websites you will realize that this "our preferred repair shop" is a primary insurance company scam. Wawanesa apparently believes it is above the law?!?!?

Government recognizes that this is such a major problem that the government feels compelled on their website to warn consumers to be present if and when you are dealing with appraisers at the insurance companies "preferred repair shop" and to maintain final decision as to whether or not repair has been completed safely and satisfactorily. Suggests that insurance company may attempt to control process and that final decision. If the government is warning you right up front like that... yeah...

a big problem exists here in the auto insurance industry. In our opinion Wawnesa is an appalling business to have to deal with.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $1500.

Preferred solution: At this point we are allowing our own insurer to proceed; then will file a lawsuit..
